Sabal Minor "Cape Hatteras Giant" cold hardy Palm seeds

4 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone. I have plenty of Sabal Minor "Cape Hatteras Giant" seeds available. For those of you that may be unfamiliar, the Sabal Minor (Dwarf Palmetto) is a rock solid cold hardy palm and has been known to take subzero temperatures and show no damage. The "Cape Hatteras Giant" is a unique ecotype of Sabal Minor found at the northernmost of their native range in North Carolina, almost as far north as Virginia. The "Cape Hatteras Giant" is popular amongst colllectors and enthusiast because of its rarity and the traits that this specific plant has. It is super cold hardy once established, it is known for the bluest coloring of the Sabal Minors, and it is the largest growing Sabal Minor. 5 feet tall is large for a standard Sabal minor but I have seen many of the Cape Hatteras variety between 7-10 feet tall. These prices include shipping and tracking within the US. I can ship outside the US for whatever the additional cost would be.

If anyone has any questions or would like to purchase any I accept paypal and you can contact me by PM or email me at pier_man0909@yahoo.com

20 seeds for $7.99
50 seeds for $12.99
100 seeds for $19.99
500 seeds for $44.99
1,000 seeds for $74.99

I am also offering a small flat rate box stuffed with seeds for $99. I dont know exactly how many will be in it but a good guess would be between 2,000-2,500.

I will also have seedlings that will vary in size for sale. They range in age from 1 year old to approximately 5 years old and will go for between $2-25 each plus shipping depending on the size.

I am also open to the possibility of trades

This is the "other plants for sale forum" try "Banana plants for sale and auction" forum, for banana related stuff, there is a place where you can post your wants on the "banana plants wanted" forum. Sometimes there are banana seeds here, but look up "seed sources" in the search and you'll get a good amount of hits.

No I do not. My musa velutina have not ripened yet and I don't know if I even will sell any of those. "Flaflowerfloozie" should have those if you want those. They are an excellent choice.

They come up in clumps here as well after the opossums have had there way with them, in "Y's" of trees, in my flowerbeds, any where the creature has decided it's time to lighten the load per se' (how do they eat those? Better thought...How do they Pass them?) but I'm not far from you...it is a Florida native and we have little appreciation for them since they are everywhere.
If you don't have them, there a great addition to a collection. I understand the heart of the tree is edible and people pay good money for heart of palm.
It is yummy...

Thanks for the offer but I live in virginia now. You have a couple nice varieties there. How big do your cape hatteras get? I have seen some in the wild that i would swear are over 10 feet tall. They once used to be native to VA but the native population is no longer there although some claim there are still some left.

OH YES! When we lived in Moore Haven the pigmy rattlers would sift into the sand at the base of the trees. I remember when we first got Rocky our little rescue and the first time he went to lift his leg this little SOB came bouncing out. I'm sure Rocky didn't have a clue why all of a sudden he was being jerked by the neck all of a sudden mid piddle! That was the end of that I carried a stick and before he was allowed to lift a toe or sniff a tree base, a good scurry of the stick in the sand to make sure the coast was clear...many times it wasn't!
Because Rocky was and still is so little John decided it was best to make a pee pole for him a 4X4 in the dirt with a large screen area around it on top of the sand with some chunky wood chips...he took to it fine and it was far safer then Rocky and I in the rattlesnakes with a stick.
If it got to loud per se', we just moved the pole to a drier area.
I had forgotten all about that till you mentioned it Kubali!

The Sabal Palmetto was commonly used for hearts of palm. They even got the nickname "cabbage palm". The Sabal Minor rarely, if at all grows an above ground trunk and the heart is underground so they arent used. Sabal Palmettos used to be native to Cape Hatteras as well but died out. One of the theories as to why they died out was that the natives killed them all harvesting the hearts. There are still native populations of Sabal Palmetto in the southern end of NC.

Pretty darn slow like other sabals. On another note, I still have had zero germ from this batch.
