Why isn't my Dwarf Brazilian dwarf anymore?

I have been growing these 'nanas for years and the bunches have always been low enough that I could touch them. Suddenly this pup exploded out of the ground and its peristem is at least 12' high. Naturally that massive bunch is hanging right over my only fruiting yang mei and I am sort of freaking out. Any ideas why this is happening? TIA.

Nice bunch :08:

It's typical with many cultivars that the ratoon crop is taller and thicker than the mother plant, aka plant crop. 12' is still very short for a Dwarf Brazilian but if you're looking to grow short plants, you'll need to cut the connection to the mother plant while the pup is still fairly young.

Ah, thanks so much. Dwarf Brazilians make a LOT of pups so that is very good to know.
