When to cut the bunch?
So my Dwarf Brazilian bloomed on December 1st. I cut the flower as instructed after a few immature hands appeared and I had about 8 inches of growth below them.
My question is how long do I leave them on the pstem for, until the first hand begins to change color? |
Re: When to cut the bunch?
My rule of thumb in SD is 6 months after the first HAND appears. Cut the top hand off and let it ripen indoors. If it is OK, cut another hand as often as you want to.

Re: When to cut the bunch?
Hey pitangadiego, I was speaking with Don from Going Bananas at the Leu Gardens plant sale last month. I special ordered a Kandrian banana from him based upon your report that it ripens a bunch very quickly for you. He said that most of his bananas mature a bunch in about 3 months. I imagine that being in San Diego, which is a cooler, Mediterranean climate, that you may not get as fast a growth rate on your plants as somebody in the hot, humid Southeast. That and maybe a bunch matures quicker in the SE also. Does that sound fair? I really never gave it much thought until recently. At any rate, he said that Kandrian was an impressive plant that grew fast and large. Looking forward to watching it grow!
