Ten days too late. Look at all the ripe ones that broke off. Most are still ok though.

The fruit from this bunch is delicious. My rare I fruit club is next week so there wont I be any waste .

53 pounds of "Ice Cream Namwah". My biggest bunch to date. No, I'm not a midget, those are big Namwah bananas.

WOW! Enjoy those Ice Whas. Or Nam Creams.

I'm finishing up my Goldfingers. Flavor is fantastic!

They are the biggest Namwah fingers I've grown so far, but other bunches on this mat that are developing look like the fingers will be about that size, too. And another Namwah variety that just ripened in my yard had similar size fingers.

What variety is this one ? - Page 2 - Bananas.org

I think Namwah varieties just like my climate.

For flavor, I'd trade the Namwahs for Goldfingers. But for productivity, seems like Namwahs can't be beat in my climate.

Dude, those things are huge. Please take a measurement of the diameter and length: Middle finger, third hand.

Yes, that's why I'm growing it.

Too late to get exact measurements from the third hand because that bunch has all been eaten or distributed, but I had measured some -- just not necessarily the third hand. The bunch had 10 hands with 15-17 fingers. Averaged over the whole bunch, the average weight was around 150 g per finger. The average finger was about 5-5.5" long. The biggest finger weighed 220 g and was about 6" long. The average diameter was about 45 mm, with the biggest ones were just over 50 mm.

The ones in this post below are from a different plant, probably "Misi Luki Namwah", but they were essentially the same size. The photos give you a sense of the length and diameter.

They are definitely healthy. Much better than the Nam Wah that I just harvested that was hanging over a canal.

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

You are both referring to "tall" Namwah ? The harvest that venturabananas has looks very similar to my harvest from "Misi Luki" (tall Namwah) 2 years ago.

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

Richard, the two I was referring to I would call "medium" and "tall" Namwah. The photos in this thread are from the tallest Pisang Awak clone I have, the one sold in the mainland US as "Ice Cream". That bunch came from a 15' p-stem. (Yes, I did measure it.) The photos in the other thread are of a medium height clone (10') that doesn't need propping, most likely what is sold here as "Misi Luki", though that particular plant was an unidentified one from Sunfish.

Is the presence of a "corky" center influenced by anything? The Ice Cream Namwah I harvested last month never became corky as some people have reported. The texture was uniform at any stage of ripeness.

My Ice Cream Namwa bananas also did not have a corky center. The second Namwa bunch will be ripe soon and it will be interesting to see if this changes.

I don't know what causes it. The two bunches I've harvested over the past month did not have a corky center either -- but I have had that in some of them in my yard before.

Is the corky center like biting into a marshmallow or is it harder than that ? I would love to taste a Namwa banana with corky center to see what it is like.

It's a little tough, verging on fibrous. To me, it's no big deal. My wife, who has higher standards, is put off by it.
