Due the plant being seriously neglected the bunch only half filled in. If you want to swing by I'll hook you up but keep in mind they taste no where near what they usually taste like when properly cared for.

Me too. When the last DB bunch hanging is ready the mat will be dug out to be replaced with ARH.

Hi,

last Monday I harvested two inflorescences from the super banana from Embrapa, the fruits are more like Musa "Prata" alias "Brazilian", one AAAB type, disease resistant. This was the second harvest! The first harvest was last year, after the frost from 26th June 2011 with -2°C. The fruits have survived the frost, but they were still unripen and I took the fruits to Germany. Then they ripened in Germany but the taste was not so good and too dry and without aroma. The new fruits from the second harvest after the frostfree southern winter are much better, larger and with a good taste, ripen at the plant.

There is also one another harvest from Nanicao, in the next weeks I will also harvest at my pond in my banana special garden.

Best wishes
Joachim

My only explanation could be that freezing breaks the cell walls releasing much more flavor.

Thank You for including that in your post, I might never have tried freezing a ripe banana.

Lol, I try to eat as many as I can fresh, but when I get too many, many end up in the freezer. Use 2-3 a day with home grown papayas and whatever else in a smoothy. I actually put almost all my cavendish in the freezer, since I can barely stand to eat them after a few from a bunch. They don't bother me in smoothies.

30lbs of Gran Nain or Williams. Had started these from pups a couple years ago thinking they were DBs. Was hoping there was a small chance they were Gros Michel. Sadly they aren't and have that same smooshy texture and bland cavendish taste.

I've got about 60lbs of hua moas in the freezer and quite a few nam wahs. They actually fry up really good as maduros after being frozen. I've never tried freezing them green, but it might be good way to preserve for those times when you need green bananas.

This is my first bunch of Orinocos. Any suggestions on how to eat and when to eat. I tried some yellow and they taste fine but are slightly mushy in texture. Are they good in smoothies or should I fry them?

Fry them, they are excellent that way.

Williams taste great and have such a nice firm texture.

Plant to harvest in 9 months.

Bloom to harvest in 100 days

Only problem was Sigatoka, didn't have any good leaves left at harvest time.

I guess you can't have everything, but I am grateful is wasn't a Dwarf Brazilian.
