Tiny sprout (pup?) advice
Hi everyone. I’ve been a fair few years out of the banana game due to a number of factors. Just got the itch again and I bought a trio of tiny plug plants a fortnight ago. One basjoo, one sikkimensis and an Ensete. I potted them up and they’re doing well - each one has produced a new leaf. My question is that the sikkimensis arrived with this little fella sprouting next to it. Hopefully I’ll attach the photo in a moment. Now my gut is telling me the right thing to do is to snip it off and let the bigger plant grow. But it seems such a shame! 😂
What do you think? Thanks, moochops I’ve posted the image in my gallery. Is that correct? Struggling with a small phone screen here. It’s the one circled in red. Appreciate any advice! 🙏 |

Re: Tiny sprout (pup?) advice
i would leave it until they get bigger and then separate them

Re: Tiny sprout (pup?) advice
Thanks Beam. That wasn’t the advice I expected tbh. But I’ll certainly roll with it. Cheers!

Re: Tiny sprout (pup?) advice
I would leave it also.
In a month or two it will be big enough easily separate from the main plant and to create it's own root system to survive the separation. It is really not sapping enough energy to make a difference . Great collection of small plants you have there. |
Re: Tiny sprout (pup?) advice
Thanks cincinnana! I will leave it be.
Thanks also for the comment about the plant collection. I’m really pleased with them. Bought them on eBay and I noticed today the seller is now offering Musella lasiocarpa plugs. Very tempted! |

Mine has never flowered yet but the foliage is awesome. Spider mites seem to love them too. |
