TC the only way???
so how do we get new types,style,colors..was told grafting bananas is a MYTH???is this true>>if so how do they cross this one and that one...no seeds or pollen..so is tissue culture the only way????thanks so much....gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo BANANAS!!!

TC produces clones of the parent plant. Basically the diversity of bananas is derived from random mutations that are selected and propagated. Kind of like selective breeding in animals, but less breeding and more selectivity. Some cross-pollination is possible in certain types also.

Somatic mutations. And some old fashioned breeding with some edible types that have some limited fertility (e.g., this was the basis of the FHIA breeding program, for example).

figured as much...thanks for all the input...like snakes i want to find the mutant albino or different color pattern and then breed it ...got ya..again thanks
