Tall Nawah

Picture taken today of a banana tall nawah 5/16/2021 in northewest florida zone 8b Pace, FL
This spring I cut down the large stalk from last year to about a height of 40 inches because the old stock last year was getting too close to the over head utility wires and last week this sprouted out. Maybe this summer I will have bananas .

Cool.. However does that plant have any leaves? Likely wont ripen fruit with no leaves unfortunately.

I just realized it doesn’t have leaves. I’m surprised it threw a flower.

When you cut them for winter...is it better to cut high or mid range? Looks like this one was cut higher.

I dont cut them at all for winter. Just wrap frost cloth on the pstem as high as i can. Any cutting i do is to remove dead tissue in spring. I have to cut any pstem this spring, exect one Raja Puri that had a choke. I just trimmed the dead leaves and let them go.

No once the flower emerges it will not put out any more leaves. Leave that flower on and see what happens.. Ive heard a few folks say that a bare plant can ripen fruit but just takes forever.. That particular plant is going to die anyway after the flower is gone so no harm in letting it try!
