Siam ruby advice needed!
 

Hi everyone,
Since I live in the UK this plant is virtually unheard of,infact I've never seen one in the flesh,only ever pics.Mostly of Steve in Frances plant which he posts updates on UKO regularly.
So I've finally managed to get one,which hopefully will turn up sometime next week.Being as a lot of you on here are growing this plant,I'd like some advice on what it likes/dislikes etc.
Any and all advice would be well appreciated.

Hey Steve! Glad to hear you've joined the UK Siam Red Owners Club! :-)

Mine has been growing slowly, but nicely. I gradually introduce it to our sunlight, well, what we've had this year, and it seems happy outside in full fun. I've not overwatered it as it's still small .. just enough. Seems happy so far.

Sounds like they're not fussy plants then,I'll be taking plenty of pics of it once it turns up.So there'll be no shortage of progress pics.

I found mine was very slow at first. I was able to put it in full sun since day one, it seems very burn resistant. My best guess is that it is the heat, as much as the light that turns it red. It stayed quite green until the evenings were in the 60's, and the days in the 80's and above, at which point it got a very deep red. It's only been the last month since it really took off. Its now about a foot tall, the pup is the same height. Good luck!

I'm a little nervous since it is my smaller bananas that have the most trouble. I would have thought a small plant would get enough light for its size and make it, and big blants would require too much light and die, but it seems the other way around. Big plants are hardier and can take longer amounts of abuse before spring arrives!!! My SDC and High Colour Mini were the first to go. The larger plants all survived quite well.

Fingers crossed for the Siam Ruby!!!
