Red Bananas

Anyone know when is the time to cut off Red Bananas from the plant? They look rather full. Is there a specific color to watch for as a sign they are ready to be harvested? Do I need to let them ripen in a dark cool location? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Eli

They will change color slightly, to a lighter red, if ripening even with some yellow too. However, you can harvest bananas at nearly any stage and they will ripen. If the fruits look full and plump, they should be fine to harvest. All things being equal, it's better to harvest bananas when they are mature but still unripe, rather than waiting for fruit to start ripening on the plant.
