Rajapuri in Australia
I live in North Queensland, Australia. I first read about the Rajapuri in "The Complete Book of Bananas" by Lessard. It seems to be worth trying here .
(We are at 1.000 metres altitude with cool winters) I couldn't find it locally, so I had a plant posted from a South Australian nursery. The plant is now about a metre tall, and doesn't seem to be the same as the "Rajapuri" in Leassard's book, and also doesn't match the photographs on this site of "Rajapuri ". The pseudostem isn't plain green,as it should be. It has a lot of red-maroon colouration, with green as well. I don't know if the nursery has sent a misnamed plant, or if the "Rajapuri" grown in Australia is incorrectly named. Does anyone reading this in Australia know if the correct "Rajapuri" is in Australia ,or what the name for the red- green pseudostem cultivar is ? (I'd also like to buy a sucker if anyone has the correctly named "Rajapuri ") |

There are a number of forum members that grow the plant in Australia. If you do a forum search you can message them for the plant and you might be able to pick one up for a piglet or a prawn. |
