Default Potting mix: To change or not to change

The Kokopo I just recieved is in what appears to be a mixture of sand, mulch/woodchips and dirt. The mulch and dirt seem to be of similar ratio, like half and half.

Probably perfect for the Florida climate....But I'm concerned it might be too "heavy" for my colder midwest climate and me having to keep it indoors for much of the time.

Yay or Nay?

How big is the plant/what size pot is it in now? Do you plan on keeping it in a pot?

If it is in a really small pot that you will be up-sizing several times this season, probably not a big deal....

..However,

...other than stalling it for a week or two from transplant shock, I personally don't see any downside to putting it in a medium from which you know what to expect, are familiar with, and comfortable with.
