Danelady.... HI Corms are easy to start......It is keeping them going is the hard part. A very good start are some of the very informative Youtube videos. Keywords.... banana growing /potting/splitting These how to videos are petty accurate and are easy to understand and to implement. The videos offer so much more information that can be shared in a few posts. Just pick and choose what fits your budget and what is easy to do. Me .....I just plant the corm in a soilless mix let the plant sort itself out...hopefully soon. Go ahead...plop it in there......In a container/pot and your plant should sort itself out in no time in your hothouse. ![]() Orinoco corm by Hostafarian, on Flickr |

Cincinnana - have you ever tried a mix of soilless (which I take to mean a peat based mix like pro-mix or such) and soil? We have pro mix with mycorrhizae and pure compost along with regular top soil and have been sort of mixing - from 1/2 of the peat mix to 1/3 peat plus compost/soil, figuring that good deal of nutrition comes with compost/soil.
Any suggestions on size of containers to max out size of plant while minimizing size of pot (weight)? Thinking of say a dwarf orinico and then a full sized orinico - what size pot for each if one wants to get to fruiting? (Iyour picture shows what we would consider a tiny pot :-)! |

Re: Planting banana corm
It will likely rot in compost. You need something that drains well. Coarse sand until it has leaves is what many recommend.
