Mitchel, was you PK sleeping with the mailman? You know I got my plant from "da man".

It must have been up to something! I've never had any fuse like that and they always seem to be blemish free unlike my others. When they ripen they have a yellow color that's brighter than my others too. Were the hands really tight against each other on the bunch?

Awesome Jon! Your bunch is a little looser looking than mine have been but the finger shape is the pretty close to the same. Cool to see how growing conditions and climate can affect things.

Can't wait to hear your feedback on taste!

Mitchel, I would say that about 30% of my bunches (regardless of variety) have one set of fused bananas. Just thought it went with the territory.

Re: Pisang Klotek

Stinkiest banana I've even smelled. OK, it has an amazing amount of nice fruity aroma released, just by peeling it. It was very bright yellow, but think it still needed another day to be fully ripe.

Re: Pisang Klotek

Yeah I've had some be very astringent until fully ripe.

Well anyways, congrats on being the first to fruit one of the pups I've sent out! I feel like a proud Papa!

Re: Pisang Klotek

I let some fruit fruit get ripe to the point of having a few brown dots on them. What a difference. They have a nice acid balance like many of the Fhias, and a nice fruity flavor that is quite intense - much more so than the Fhias. Finally there is a fleeting but very intense floral taste that is perceived more as an aroma (though you do not detect it by just smelling the banana). Couldn't really identify the flower - camellia, orchid, gardenia - just don't know. I recognized it, but can't place the name. This is a winner. Thanx, Mitchel.

Re: Pisang Klotek

Jon, how would you compare the flavor of the Pisang Klotek to "regular old" Mysore? They are at least very closely related and at most, the same. Do the differ from what you can tell?

pitangadiego 07-06-2011 12:38 AM

Re: Pisang Klotek

Performs much better, larger fruit, and much more intense flavor.

My wife who doesn't much care for bananas but has told me several times that I should only grow this banana. I do have two stands now, maybe some day I'll give in to her requests.

Re: Pisang Klotek

As long as there is enough of what she wants, she won't notice the other varieties.
