over-watering vs under-watering ?
 
Hello, I am trying to figure out what are the different signs between over-watered banana and under-watered banana. My banana plants is deteriorating and am trying to figure out whether it has been over-watered or under-watered. I am still unable to tell the difference as the symptoms seem so similar.

If there is rapid yellowing of multiple leaves you are probably overwatering and causing root rot. From now till April you can easily over water. You just need to keep them damp. In warm months when they are actively growing it is pretty hard to over water, unless you are really crazy.
You can tell a lot by just feeling the soil.

my guess your doing pots. your zone would be helpful. my second guess if you are doing pots, your overwatering. you cant force them to gro, patience, an underwatered banana grows better than an overwatered one. and normally everybody over waters.

Yes actually am doing pots, and it seems I have over-watered my plants. I am going to cut down on watering.

This time of year it is easy to over water, any house plant. Banana's are one of the easiest. Make sure your pots drain well, lighten up your soil with perlite and let them dry out between watering. Banana's will grow slow or not at all this time of year. They may not look as good as you like them to look and many are killed with kindness. Most of mine are stored bare root and get no water from the middle of Oct. - the middle of May.

Mostly Orinoco, this year I have - Ensete Red Abyssinian, Goldfinger, Kokopo (Short Cycle), Double (Mahoi), Pisang Ceylon(Mysore) in the pile. We will see how some of these do come May. In pots Highgate, Super Dwarf Cavendish, Double (Mahoi), 4th season Ensete Red Abyssinian, Musa Margarita. These are in my basement, 55ºF-65ºF depending on the outside temps. I do have lights for the ones in pots and only water them when they are dry.
