I just got a 2 foot musa zebrina from a friend. I plan on putting her in a spot that gets morning sun<3 hrs>. But the rest of the day is very high light. Is that ok for this type of banana? What about full sun? Do they loose there red blotching in full sun?:nanerelectricguitar

I have found both my Zebrina and my High Colour Mini have far more dramatic red splotches in full sun. They are indoors currently and the red is fading fast, and the new growth is also greener. Come to think of it my Bordelon pup is doing the same thing. I am expecting the new growth to become bright again when they go back outside in the spring. If they make it through the winter in my less than suitable house that is!

3 hours full sun and very bright light the rest of the day should be just fine for the plant, however, as long as its not in a dark shady spot or indoors.

My Zebrina mat gets about 5-6 hours direct sun daily; mid-morning sun and then on to afternoon sun.
It's doing great, pupping like crazy now and loving life.
Go for it.

Our back yard faces south, so mine get full sun all day and they are beautiful!

Hey guys and gals. What is the other musa/s that is similar to zebrina, but is supposted to be much more cold hardy?:coldbanana:

You must be thinking of Musa Sikkimensis!!!!!

Not only more cold hardy, but atleast 3 times the size, probably faster growing, and in my opinion the most beautyful musa there is!

Bordelon is also similar to M. zebrina, and more cold-hardy.
