Most common edible reds?

What are the most common, available in US, edible red banana plants? I know of the Jamaican Red (I think also called the Cuban Red) but are there any others? I have looked on the Wiki but the other reds seem less common like the Red Iholene.

Re: Most common edible reds?

Basically 'Dwarf Red' (which has many names including 'Jamaican Red' and 'Cuban Red'), 'Red' or 'Tall Red' (same plant), 'Green Red' (a green mutant of the 'Tall Red') and I've heard of 'Dwarf Green Red' but have never actually seen one, but it's just another green mutant. 'Red Iholena' and anything else with "red" in the name is not related to these other Red bananas. There are some other varieties but they are not in the US. In general it is not a very diverse subgroup anyways.

I got a dwarf green red this year from Jimmy during his plant sells this year it is a beautiful plant and has grown from twelve inches to about 4ft this year just put it in the green house for winter hope it survives and really takes off this summer.want to see some fruit next year. My dw orinocos hit 8-9ft this year but no bloom, really disappointed.

Thanks for the info. I presume the fruit of the green mutations is pretty similar to the Dwarf red? I have a Dwarf Red/Cuban red sucker that I just planted. No new leaves yet but I think one will emerge soon. I know they take a long time to mature, so I have a while to wait. I think also it is getting used to its new home away from the mother tree.

The "Dwarf Red Green" was sold by AgriStarts through last year. I raised a half-flat in 2 gallon pots and sold them to customers along the north San Diego county coastal area. Most people bought them as ornamental with a fruiting bonus.

I have had Dwarf Green Red for several years. Behaves like a red, but the fruit is green.

That's interesting. So it lost its red fruit characteristic. Do you have any pics of the plant?

The whole plant is less red, not just the fruit. These pigmentation losses (and gains) are common. Here are some photos of all but the 'Dwarf Green Red', but you can get the idea of what it would look like.
