leaves peeling away from stalk on basjoo
hey guys, any idea why the leaves on a basjoo banna (potted) would start to peel away from the stalk as new leaves grow out the top?

My dwarf Orinoco (which is still potted) had its last leaf pull away while the 9th leaf was coming out. The reason it occurs is physics. The curve of the oldest leaf sheath has much smaller curve and can no longer grip the larger pseudostem so it pops off, they weight of the leaf pulls it away. Does that describe what is happening to your banana? |

On a 17' tall Namwa the older leafs falling can crush a nearby smaller banana. :rollerbananadone:

If you mean that the stalk is dry and peeling, that's normal. I just trim it back with a large pair of scissors.
As for posting pics on here, upload to your gallery. Click on the pic to open, and it will give you the code to C&P into your post. |

This is typical for an Orinoco. If you're plant is actively growing it is normal for the outer sheaths to be posted out. Just cut them off. Pot may be too small.:drum:
