So we bought a house in February with a stand of what I believe are Orinocos in the back corner. I've been mostly neglecting them, watering and fertilizing occasionally, cutting off any dead/dying leaves every few weeks. I've been keeping an eye out for any new growth that looks like something other than a new leaf and there's been nothing ... until today! Somebody tell me if I'm wrong, but this looks like a bloom emerging.
My question is ... what do I do now to get fruit? Fertilize? Stop fertilizing? Water? If so, how much and how often? Stop watering altogether? Dance naked under the thing every night? Sacrifice a goat? Help! Sorry for photo quality. The bloom (or whatever it is) is probably 13' off the ground and this is taken with my phone and a selfie stick at the end of my outstretched arm. ![]() |

Yes, it is a bloom!!! Here's what you have to do:
1. Have a conversation with your plant. Tell it you are pleased, and to make plenty of bananas. 2. Make sure your plant is happy. Read stories to it and pet it. Make it feel loved. 3. Pretend to kill your other banana trees. That will make it feel special, so it will try to make more bananas. ![]() ![]() ![]() 4. Last but not least, make it feel safe. It may be reluctant to make bananas if it thinks that when they ripen they will be eaten by animals. Stand up all night with your plant. Make a fence around it. It is your job to prevent fear in bananas #prevent fear in banana trees# Lol!!! ![]() ![]() |
