How much weekly water?
Hi
My red banana is in a pot that is about 13 gallons. it's about 7 feet tall. how much water does it need a week? I've given it one gallon so far. seems like too little water for so much soil. It's cactus mix, perlite and regular miracle gro soil. |

Re: How much weekly water?
I am so new to plants in general.
the soil on top is moist but being that the pot is 13 inches or so deep, i'm hoping that the water is going down. I did cut a wilting/yellowish leaf off and you could feel the wetness in the cells inside. So i guess it's ok. I just can't gauge if it's too much water or not. |
Re: How much weekly water?
With so small a pot, you need to water less more frequently, rather than more less frequently. My inground bananas, in 100% compost, are soaked twice a week at 80F and 3 times at 90F. More humid environments need less water (less evaporation takes place)
In a pot, you probanby need to water 3 times a week as a starting point. |

Hard to find one big enough. I could pot it in the 20 gal storage tub and then into a huge saucer. I repotted it because I had no drainage at first. |
