Great pictures! Thanks for posting them and glad you had a good visit. Do you know where the banana pics are from?

The Mai'a hapai and Ae Ae were at the Amy Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden and the presumed Ele Ele and super tall Brazilian were at the 12 Trees Project.

Yep, here are a few.

Nice underwater scenery, lots of coral in places:

Goatfish school:

Moray eel:

Manta rays. Bear in mind that the smallest of these rays had about an 8 foot "wingspan" and the largest ones in the 14' range. The photo give some idea of the mayhem that goes on when 18 of these things are in your face, in the dark, at night.

What camera did you use to take this with?

The Pics look Great! How long have you had your PADI?

I bought the Sealife camera, at the time I could find anything that would do Clear HD video too. How does your Canon handle HD video?

I've been a certified diver for over 20 years. I'm a marine biologist and so I dive a lot for work. I've done close to 3000 dives.

That camera is a digital SLR that does not do video. I don't know much about underwater video, but in general, you can find an underwater housing for any high-quality HD video camera. And the cameras and housings are getting smaller and smaller, which is great.

Cool, 20 years is a long time to have fun under the sea. I want to dive the barrier reef. Next year is the goal.

Amen! to smaller and better equipment. HD video is still catching up to the Digital still image quality IMO.

Looks and sounds like you had a wonderful trip thanks again for sharing some of the PICS.

The best bang for your buck is the Go Pro Hero 2.

Some of my colleagues are using the Go Pro for their research. Can't beat the price.

Thanks for the great post and photos Mark. I am glad you had a great time. We are five months away from moving to the Big Island. We love it there! The Alii drive market is a great place for fruit and veggies. We have had a really cold winter here in Santa Barbara. I'm looking forward to say goodbye to the damp cold.

Mitchell, I agree the Go Pro Hero 2 is great. The camera stays on over 100 miles per hour which is cool. It is also so small.
