I did try a couple of years back, but nothing!

I have ten seeds planted in an old taramasalata box filled with vermiculite and placed on a heat mat with timer. This is all placed in my shed.

A lot of people say that it is the extreme change of temp that germinates.

yeah i have heard something like that i have a load of Musella lasiocarpa seeds in the fridge apparently they have to be there for 6 weeks befoire planting up as normal, it is strange how these germinate.

I have also got some Tree Fern seeds Cyathea medullaris,
Black Tree Fern on the go. Seems like a green sludge at the moment, so not sure whats happening there. I have a 5 foot plant in my garden, got it at a bargain price of £40 from a local nursery. They also had 20 sikkis all of about 6 feet high for a fiver each!!!

By the time I thought about buying some they had all gone!

that is as cheap as chips. I tend to buy mine of ebay watch them till there in the last minutes then snap them up for about 1.50 for a pup cut off, but that is a good deal for a fiver tho. The other thing that i grow is a lemon tree which believe it or not it is kept outside and actually produces lemons, got 3 growing at the moment. Really want a tree fern but not sure probably wait till next year.

Hi again chaps.Im from lincolnshire uk.That sikki for £5 was a givaway lol i paid £12 for a tiny plant of ebay .How ever its growing well now thuo.The plants i have collected up to now are as follows
Musa basjoo
Musella lasiocarpa
Ensete maralia
Musa valutina
Musa sikkimensis
Musa icecream
And like you guys i have sikki seeds that im trying to germinate.Dont know about you guys but this is my first year growing bananas and i never thought i would get so exited about new leafs comming out lol .Im an addict.Ill post some pics of my garden later see you later guys...daz

I was just wondering i can find lots of banana's plant for sale in the US but no exported to UK can anyone who lives in the UK recomend somewhere to buy the differnet types of Musa, preferably on line. Cheers Mark

Mark I have tried dozens of sellers in the U.S and they will not send plants without a Phytosanitry Certificate and that will cost you $50 for starters then you have the cost of the plant and then import tax so unless you are loaded your out of luck.

I find it annoying that we cant get some of the plants that are available to the Americans and I am sure we have things that they can't get too.


Have you tried jungle gardens, easy tropicals,ebay,sunshine seeds sell plants,
Amulree, Urban jungle, Mulu. they all sell bananas.

Just tolet you know Mulu has a sale on at the moment,with most of their nanas going cheap.I'm tempted to get a China champa,but as its the only thing i'd order isn't worth the postage costs.
Easy tropicals has got a sale on as well.Thats where my Ice cream is coming from,10l plant for £20 also got Laterita aswell.No idea where they're allgoing tho

Hi Carpy,
I actually live in Hoo,a couple of miles away from Rochester.So don't know most of the roads.But I take it you mean the Fort near Borstal?not the ones in the Medway.
When we were kids we used to spend all day down by the Medway,either in Hoo or Upnor in the old air raid shelters etc.

I remember being dared to go down a tunnel with some friends, I was about eleven at the time (supposed to go under the medway and exit the other side) we packed sandwiches, torches, spud guns, catapaults etc... We only got about 50yards and there was these enormous rats, boy did we scarper!

Last time I was around the area it was all fenced off and I think there is a college nearby now.

I also climbed that old tree outside the cathedral opposite the castle.

I think the Art college is nearby along with a Girls school I think?
I'd take a guess and say the rats are probably still down there

A lot of D.I.Y chains now sell bananas especially Homebase, maybe give that a go?

I'd second Easy tropicals.Very nice selection of plants,and they always arrive in one piece.Although they've pretty much run out of everything now,asthey've had a sale and most of its gone.
I'd also recommend ebay,especially at the mo,as there are tons of bananas on there,cheap too.
