Golden Rhino Horn Not Doing Well

Good morning everyone,

I recently planted a 3 year Golden Rhino Horn that I purchased. It had been cut back to around 18" when recieved. I planted 3 days after arrival and it began to grow immediately. However, after about a week the growth stopped and it looks weak and unhealthy. The one leaf that sprouted is actually leaning over. Anyone have any thoughts? If the main plant stops growing, will the corm produce suckers? Thanks and BTW, I'm new to the forum. Tim

Just had this conversation with another board member who planted some of my pups.

Here is what happens. Think of the corm as a car battery that stores energy. The energy is replaced by the vehicle's alternator, or soil in the bananas case. Once removed from the soil it can no longer recharge itself much like having a faulty alternator, but the battery / corm still has some stored energy that will last for a finite time. When it runs out of energy the lights go dim / growth stops.

Once the roots grow back out into the soil it will recharge itself and start growing again. Just don't over water before that new growth happens.

Great and thanks for the advice. I'll keep watching and limit the water.
