Double crown

Has anyone seen a double crown on a banana before?

I can't really tell exactly what's going on in your photo, but double crowns are common in the cultivar known as 'Double Cavendish' (also incorrectly referred to as 'Mahoe' or 'Mahoi'). They are known for making split bunches, but also often can have multiple growing points combining into one pseudostem, producing a double crown.

Re: Double crown

Well I think I answered my own mystery. I was just very curious as to why what was happening to my banana. I opened up the center farther so I could look deeper and I saw all this black stuff down farther. I removed the older leaves and I found a whole area of blackened and rotted leaves that never grew up and out but bunched all up and just stuck there. As you can tell there really is only one crown, but now the plant is reduced in half and it was the original parent plant. I was so hoping that it was going to flower this year too. I have several other shoots that are growing nicely, so I guess I'll have to wait longer. I just can't figure out why those leaves never developed.
