If you have a California Gold that is over a couple feet tall will you take a closeup picture of the base of one of the top leaves and post it here? Or compare it to the two pictures below and report which one it resembles. A short history would be helpful also, such as place of purchase, height and height at flowering if applicable.

Dave, I don't recognize exactly what we're looking for. Your Namwah photo has a new leave emerging through the petiole so it's hard to compare the photos.

For the record, Michael's pup came from my plant which I bought directly from Jeff Earl during a personal visit.

Be careful with this descriptor, it often changes with age on the plant. The base of a young leaf on a sucker can look very different from a large leaf on a mature plant. It can be used to differentiate plants like any descriptor can, but it is not very discriminating and it is only useful for IDing when used with other descriptors.

Im trying figure out if their is a consistent leaf shape / characteristic with CG.

If you look at the base of the leaf where the blade meets the petiole
does it have more of a cordate or truncate shape?

Orinoco / Dwarf Orinoco have a more truncate or flat across the bottom shape and Namwah has more of a curved / lobe shape at the bottom. The bottom of the leaf blade is substantially lower than the point which it meets the petiole. On Orinoco / Dwarf Orinoco they sometimes look like they have more of a curve if a tear occurs right where it meets the petiole. I also noticed that sometimes Orinoco will have a few leaves that the left side of the blade is cordate and the right side, last to unfurl, is truncate. I have 8 large Dwarf Namwah and they all seem to have a more consistent shape. Keep in mind this is on large mature type leaves.

Here's mine - three different leaves from the same plant - California Gold purchased this Spring directly from Jeff Earl off eBay, not old enough to flower, P-stem 17 inches - total plant height 36 inches:

Largest leaf is 24 inches long by 12 inches wide and that is the youngest leaf. Total leaves on the plant currently is 7 leaves.
