Blue Java Help
Hi everybody,
My name is Carrie, and I’m growing in southeastern NC (Jacksonville area). This is my first banana plant. I bought a Blue Java Ice Cream Banana (about 4.5 feet tall) from a grower in GA and had it shipped here. UPS was very rough with the package apparently and it arrived on 4/22 with its stem bent just about in half below where the leaves emerged, but after reading, I thought I could fix it by supporting them by wrapping twine around the bent area to create a sort of brace. The three leaves it arrived with have now bent about halfway down the leaf and one of the three has wilted and is trying to fall off. There are no pups or indication of them attempting to emerge. The twine-brace isn’t choking the stem, I have checked, but there are also no new leaves emerging either. It also arrived with a bruise to the stem about 18” from the corm, and I planted it the same day it was delivered in rich organic soil and watered well. Is there anything I can do to save the plant? The stem bruise was leaking sap but appears to have healed now. Thanks in advance!! |
