Basjoo v Sikkimensis

Ok its midish September and my growing season here in England is drawing to a close.
I have done a careful study of the growth and performance of the two varieties compared side by side.
Only consideration is that my Sikkimensis (3 Year old) is from seed and Basjoo is 4 years old and bought locally probably a pup (rather than T C ).
Both are well worth growing and both are rewarding and respond to good fertilisation and heavy watering.
Basjoo wins by a mile. Its leaves are bigger ,greener and it pups more readily. It is more spectacular and is more wind tolerant.Sikkimensis pups closer to the stem and Basjoo forms a better "Clump" with pups further from the stem.
I hope that both survive Winter (with much wrapping) and I hope to continue my comparisons.

Re: Basjoo v Sikkimensis

Thanks for this information. I have both varieties now but my basjoo is just a pup and my sikkimensis was started from seed this year(though it is growing better than any of the others that I started from seed this year). I will remember to put my sikkimensis in places where I don't want the bananas to spread too much and will put the basjoo where I want some nice groves of bananas.
