Re: Which banana cultivar has the frutiest flavor?

Two of my favorites for a dessert fruit has been 'Muraru Mshale' and 'Muraru Mulalu', M'chare subgroup members from East Africa. They have rather large fruit and bunches, and a very nice aromatic flavor and a rather thick, dense texture similar to 'Gros Michel', but also with an acidic and perhaps "fruitier" component. They are both very good, though slightly different in taste from eachother. I plan on getting more similar cultivars soon to select one with the best agronomic traits as the ones I have right now could use a little improvement if they are to be adopted by farmers. The bunches were about 80lbs (36kg) each the first time they fruited.

About 3/4 of the 'Muraru Mshale' bunch during weighing and dehanding.

Gabe,

Thanks. If ever any of your Murarus ever sets a seed or two, could you please put it on the list - with photos? I think Muraru and the Mlali group in general are the key to getting new dessert triploids that are disease resistant and acceptable to the export mass market. The cavendish replacement!

Thanks,

shannon

East Africa and now Hawaii. But a Mysore or a Pisang Klotek fit the bill nicely. Smaller fruit but complex sweet/tart taste!

Here in Brazil there is a cultivar that fits in this category.........

Its called "Prata"............from the AAB group..............

I have this in my Garden..............

Its a very large tree...................

The fruits are small..........having sweet and sub-acid flavor..................

I found a vídeo that show this kind of cultivar...........and its fruits.........

At 3:57 you will see the size of this plant........very tall and thick.........

This is the same cultivar as Dwarf Brazilian, for those who don't know. And yes, it is excellent.

I have some problems with the names in English..............

I´m a newbie..................

But I think that Dwarf Brazilian..............belongs to Cavendish Group (AAA)..........???

I have two cultivars here.............one called "Nanica"..........and the other called "Nanicão"..................

"Nanica" is very short tree..............big bunches..............the top of the bunch start at my chest..................and the final of the bunch is almost 40cm from the ground.............

Very small tree.................."Nanica" means Dwarf..............and have amazing taste............very sweet...............but not sub-acid..............

"Prata" cultivar belongs to AAB group................and this have sub-acid flavor...............

Now there is a variant called "Dwarf Prata"....................the tree is shorter..........and the fruits is bigger than regular "Prata".............its the favorite cultivar in Brazil...................

Look at this vídeo..........its an experimental field.................that have almos 400 banana varieties..................

Its from Embrapa - Cruz das Almas.................and the researcher is Edson Amorin.................

Agrônomo mostra que alguns tipos de bananas podem ter sementes - Globo Rural - Catálogo de VÃ*deos

Here is one variant.............TC...................that belongs to the same group AAB................

Well I really do not believe they are yucky and the millions of people that eat them must not think so either. It's a bunch of:woohoonaner:

No, Dwarf Brazilian is the very same plant as Prata. It's in the Pome (AAB) subgroup.

Thank you for the explanation...............

This one............became Brazil favorite...............and most cultivated Banana variety.............

And the "Nanica".............AAA group you call it Dwarf Cavendish..........???

So......Dwarf Brazilian is AAB group.............and Dwarf Cavendish is AAA group........

Is that right..........???
