Apparently 31 degrees FRYS Orinoco leaves!!!!!

Well it hit 31 degrees last night and all Bananas have fried leaves. I thought they would take a few degrees colder than that. We were only below 32 for about one hour and most of them were well watered. Anyway my season is over.

On a more solemn note I have a family member that is terminally ill (not expected) and I may not be here as often as I wish or have time to protect my bananas like I wish. I did manage to get my PK, Raja Puri, DN and DR inside. The rest will pretty much be on there own. I know the O's will return and we'll see next spring who pops up and who doesn't. I should manage to get by every two weeks. We'll see.

Keep me in your thoughts please!

Under an hour of 32 burning leaves on an Orinoco doesn't seem right. You may have gotten a frost.

You are absolutely right! Sorry I'm a bit distracted. There was a moderate frost last night and I'm sure that did them in.

one night about 2 weeks ago my orinoco was out in the greenhouse potted and the heater went out got down to 34 for a few hours and the leaves were done ! there must have been a short frost. but for an hour might have done the slightest bit of damage.

Yep, That sounds right. Its just the leafs the stalk is fine and the plant will resume.

Sorry to hear about your bananas. Sounds like frost, last year my plants survived a very cold night around freezing. Several days later, not as cold but lost most of my banana leaves to a frost. I check the forecasted humidity when it gets cold now.

How did your bananas fare Mike?

Banana plants are easy to replace, family members require a whole lot more. Good luck with both and our prayers for all of you.
