FYI,

During the cold weather here Ebun Musak held up as well as Musa balbisiana variety Thai Black.

It is a good cultivar in cool weather.

I'm not really sure how Kandarian will do but it is one which ripens quicker than most so I'd like to try it again. I killed one indoors in a pot (I think it became root bound and dried out while I went on vacation). I'd like to grow some of these types (Viente Cohol included) as an annual, starting pups in the greenhouse in the winter and setting them out in the spring in hopes of fruit maturing by fall. We just need something that has a wider window than something that takes 5-6 months to mature.

You wrote earlier that the risk of frost has passed. Don't be fooled by this mild weather. We had frost in late March last year. Our official normal last frost date is something like 3/20 but last year we had frost after that. If you lose any plants due to frost in March or later I suggest you ask Gore for a refund. ;)

beautiful. Thanks. I would go in on about a dozen Colocasia esculenta 'Black Ruffles', a few siam ruby, &/or, deffering to the wisdom of any/all others on this site who would offer better suggestions for me in seattle, zone 8, for some with darkest leaf, others with a glaucous blue leaf. Or, since I'm basically clueless, impulsive, & desperate, would also try Musa Ele Ele, Raja Puri, Red Iholene, White Iholene, Ensete Ventricosum Maurelii

Richard, take me off for the Margarita. I didn't realize they were not red. Also, Raja Puri would be great but Agri-Starts won't have them for quite a while..

Thanks for doing this Richard, if there is enough demand I'd definately be interested in "Itinerans", "Kalela" and a few "Truly tiny". Amounts can be adjusted to fit. Thanks again, Bob

I haven't heard of any one here growing Kalela, it seems to be a 6-8' sport of dwarf brazilian with bigger fruits(can't hurt to solicit right?).

Not to discourage you, Bob, but I've heard from a couple of guys in Florida that say that Dwarf Brazilian takes six months to mature which really makes it a tough one in our marginal climate.

I'm really wanting more of the fast ones like Viente Cohol, etc. that can mature even if they bloom in August or early September. I've heard they are having some problems with Viente Cohol in TC, though.

Here's my list (mostly alocasia and colocasia). As for what's on the list so far. Add me for Musa Siam Ruby (3), Musa Ele Ele (5), and Colocasia esculenta 'Black Ruffles' (10).

New items. Alocasia 'Hilo Beauty' (10), Alocasia 'Portora' (5), and Xanthosoma sagittifolium (10), '1000 Fingers' (3), Musa 'Praying Hands' (5), and Colocasia esculenta 'Elena' (5).

I have a order shipping from Agri-Starts on Tuesday. I will have a tray of Basjoo and Zebrina. I would like to get a few small lots of other varieties. I would like 5 Siam Ruby, 5 Black Ruffles, I would like 5 or 10 Musa Kru if anyone else would be interested in this variety. 5 +/- Dwarf Orinoco. 5 Musa Bordelon. Let me know so I can figure out how much I will owe to who.

Thanks Harvey, not discouraged at all. I'm waiting on a V.C. at the moment but that'll be up to Going Bananas if I get it this year. Still I'm collecting Hardy, Fruiting , Tall and Ornamentals till they prove I either can't overwinter via "big dog" or "on the porch with metal halides" or the old reliable hay bales and tarp.( or when I run out of room, working on that too.)
Haven't had one flower yet so I can't be discouraged till then.

Reading this thread for the 1st time?

We are putting together an order of tissue culture plants from AgriStarts.

1. Choose plants from the AgriStarts list: http://www.agristarts.com/avail.htm
2. Reply to this thread to indicate what plants you want
3. The order will be placed sometime in March
4. You will only be charged actual cost of your plants + your share of actual shipping costs
5. No payment required until I receive the plants from AgriStarts. I will provide you with an online payment system -- or you can mail me a check, pay in person, etc.
6. Our final order must be in full flats (72 per flat). Flats can contain a mixture to some extent, but a flat of singletons is not going to make it. Quantities of 3, 4, 6, 8, and 9 are encouraged.

Currently our total is about 2.25 flats. If you are a participant, I encourage you to mention this thread in other Bananas.org forums. :D
