Why is it that the things I want to grow always grow better where I am not? Beautiful bananas!

Thanks for the great pics Frank! Those are beautiful plants. I see no pups - are they only propagated by seed? So it was ensete superbum I saw up in the hills here. Pics as soon as I can get the keys to the jeep and get up there - maybe this pm.

Ensetes are normally produced by seeds unless you want to do something "drastic"!

Re: Some cultivated Ensete superbums at Farm Chokchai, Thailand
that drastic is cutting the stem down to the soil and then you have a change (sometimes it goes wrong) that all new pups are pupping out of the corm, right?

Re: Some cultivated Ensete superbums at Farm Chokchai, Thailand
picture from 'Kristof' ( from a dutch forum board)
that happens when you cut the stem down to the ground lots of new pups! ![]() |
Re: Some cultivated Ensete superbums at Farm Chokchai, Thailand
Excellent pics Frank.
I have only ever succeeded with getting Ensete Maurelii to pup with the chopping method to get pups. All the green types I have done have not worked :( I am currently trying a Glaucum ( again ) at the moment. Frank, Did you see any Variegated Bananas out there? |

From what I've read, this method only works with E. ventricosum. I did see one variegated banana. I think it was an 'AeAe', and it was planted in the ground at a nursery. I have a picture somewhere, I'll try to get it uploaded and posted soon. |

Greats shots. That's cool that they are being cultivated over there too. Did it look like they were self seeding flowers/fruit, or pollinated.
