Well, that site is from 2002 and I don't know if all botanists would accept that. I know that I don't accept it( and I am just a few years away from having a degree and being an actual Botanist by profession). I am very skeptical about this also, because I haven't seen a scientific journal article about it. That is what I really use to go by when it comes to changes in nomenclature like that.

Gabe- had you seen this before? What does Markku say about it?

I'm very skeptical about that also. Supposedly, there has been another species of Musella discovered in North Vietnam, so it may not be a monotypic genus after alll. Where are their references? Who reclassified it and why? Too much missing information there.

There are 2 species of Musella, Musella lasiocarpa and Musella splendida, and yes they are different. They are still in their own genus, nothing has changed for a few years. If anything they are closer to Ensete, not Musa. Infact they should cross fairly easily, Ensete x Musella, but not Musa x Musella.

Carlos- I know splendida is from Vietnam. I think the bracts are a little longer, at least from what I have seen on the internet.

I know it is a larger plant, but I have not seen the full description, only a few pictures.
