Musa thompsonii is M.flaviflora?
 

While brousing the web for M.flaviflora info I found a German page which states that the two are almost identical. Then on Trebrowns new web site it they are selling M.flaviflora, but calling it thompson's banana.

They are definetly 2 different plants. If I remember I can ask Markku tommarow, I am here with him at the CRFG Festival of Fruit in San Luis Obispo. But still I am certain they are very different plants, sometimes these seed companies are not the best source of information.

So what do you think Phil is selling at Trebrown? He seems to know his stuff, but he has told me that his number 1 passion is palms, not bananas.

I just ordered some Musa Flaviflora from him. My guess is regular Thomsoni.

Beware when buying Musa Nagensium too, as there are many versions out there on the market. I ordered from 2 different seed companies, and got 2 very different seeds.

True Musa nagensium has white seeds. Musa flaviflora is not well known and is not found in the wild anymore, or if it is, it is very rare. Also, I dont know if it matters, but Musa thomsonii has no "P", its just M. thomsonii. In some of the literature it is equated with a "Musa thomsoni" (King 1929), but these 2 plants are intirely different. It is also possible that the M. flaviflora being sold is some Rhodochlamys x Eumusa cross plant.

Well, I ordered Musa NagensiumX from Trebrown. They were very worty in texture, and a little bigger than sikkimensis seeds. These are powerful seeds, as the first have sprouted after only 2 weeks!! I am guessing there is a fair deal of cheesmani blood in this one.

I ordered some Musa Nagensium from Seedman, and these were totally smooth and light brown in colour. And they were almost the size of ensete seeds, a little smaller. (Not white....) I have no idea what this really is...:aliennaner:

Gabe, do you know of any other good seed sources?

I am still waiting for the flaviflora to appear, but I ordered only a few days ago so it will take a while longer.

So this winter I will be stuck with ALOT of seedlings for next season. I am hoping my new high power natrium bulbs will do the job...

Hi can you guys explain to me the procedures that you use to germinate banana seeds . Do you file them and then soak or vice versa. what temps,

I have just potted up Nagensium, Cheesmanii, Monkey fingers, and one called yellow forest banana.

I found what I think is the link between the mixup of these 2 species names. At one point Musa flaviflora had the Musa x paradisiaca var. thomsonii. However Musa flaviflora and Musa thomsonii are still different species, the former being rather poorly known today.

Thanks Erland that thread was very informative. What sort of heat doe's the mat give off? I have just got a few seeds from phil at trebrown where do you shop as a lot of the seeds you guys are growing are not usually seen over here in the uk.
