Musa banksii flowering

Our Musa banksii is flowering, actually the 2 big stems are both flowering. This grows well but doesn't sucker heavily.

Glad you all enjoyed it. It is growing under the high canopy of a southern live oak that is loaded with Spanish Moss.

I have some seeds of Banksii in the prop at the moment. Been in erlands soak method for two weeks prior. Fingers crossed they will germinate as they were very fresh seeds.

Very nice! I don't care how many pictures I see of banana flowers, every one I see makes me more and more hooked. I found a discarded 20 gal aquarium today. God must be telling me to germinate more seeds, right???? Also found a 3 gallon clear plastic jug that's shaped like a barrel - hmmm, terrarium - I think so.

Hey Pauly, did you see what he said about being under an Oak tree....? This might just give us the edge when the heat of the summer cooks the trees without some sort of protection. Might also help block the wind a bit if strategically placed.

Re: Musa banksii flowering

Hopefully with 2 inflorescences going I can get some viable seed from this.

Re: Musa banksii flowering

Hey Eric, I was just wondering what your source was for your original Musa banksii plant? The bud on yours is a very dark purple/maroon color. The pics I have seen online of Musa banksii have yellow-green buds, but I have seen references to "some forms" having the purple or maroon buds.

By the way, did you ever get seeds? Musa banksii has basal hermaphrodite flowers, so you should get some without another flower open.

I have now got 7 seedlings of banksii growing away nicely in the prop. Just need to keep them going. ( see gallery)
