Ensete Maurelli at Home Depot in N. CA

I just picked up a nice E. Maurelli (what was labelled on the 7 gallon pot). It's very healthy and I only saw one, but I sorta ran thru the garden center as I was short on time and scooped up the Ensete on the fly.

I was also at Lowe's yesterday and picked up a gorgeous variegated ginger about to flower (but I didn't see any bananas)

This is in the Citrus Heights area of Northern CA (just east of Sack-o-tomato). I'll wager the other stores in the area also have some in. Y'all might want to check your local stores...

Our HD has some E. maurelli as well along with cavendish bananas. They were reasonably priced, but after a weekend, I bet they are all gone by now. Unique plants tend to go quickly at our HD and Lowe's. Lowe's has musa basjoos in one and three gallons.

Our HD suprised me with Maurellii's, D. Namwah's, Sumatrana's, Green Reds?? and Grand Nains all close to 5' tall.

How fortunate you are to have such a great selection in your local HD's and Lowe's. I went to the farmer's market in Olympia, WA and found an E Maurellii for $20.00. I was ecstatic. It's 13 inches tall with 3 leaves, largest of which is 13" long, with a new leaf emerging. A real find at the farmer's market. I'm a bit concerned about the soil, he said, and I quote, "the good thing about this soil is that it holds alot of water". Perhaps I should place it on a heat mat to compensate for this soil.

How much did you pay at HD for your Maurellii?

I paid $19.60 + tax. It is about 2' tall and putting out it's 11th leaf

Sounds like a very good price. Guess it costs more to ship up here. Your Maurellii is beautiful.

My Lowe's just had Rajapuri. You all are lucky to have a wider selection.:2725:

Well, wider selection seems to be store variable. I've never seen more than one kind of banana in my local stores, and usually no more than a few.

Maybe I just come in after they sell off the rest...:ha:

The orange box I'm working at in San Diego received a shipment last week of eight varieties of fruiting bananas -- about 20 plants total, plus Zebrinas and a few Ensete hybrids. Some of the Ensete's are mislabeled; e.g. Musa Maurelli. As of yesterday, the only remaining bananas were 1 ice cream, 1 dwarf cavendish, plus a very large Ensete in a 14" box.
