Survived Winter in Zone 8, N.C.

These bananas were left in the ground because they were too large for me to dig/move. As you will note from the photo, the stem is still very solid. This is April the 7th, and I do hope that we do not have any more late freezes.
Do the banana stems look to you like they made it ok? I do not know the name of the cultivar. I hope someone could make a good guess for me. I know it is a plaintain type.

Please see my gallery. thank you.

Hey,
Your not very far from me. Where and when did you get your bananas? If you didn't plant them then most likely they are orinocos, this is the most common variety in this area. Do the leaves have any red in them when the plants are young. What is the maximum pseudostem height you have seen?
This should be a good year to produce fruit unless we get a freak late frost. You should start fertilizing soon. Good luck!
