Overwintering musa glauca
 

As I mentioned in another post, I have a baby musa glauca (or is that Ensete glaucum?) which is about 35 cm tall. I've heard that these are difficult to overwinter in colder regions (in particular Europe) despite it's (marketing?) name of snow banana.

Has anyone had success in overwintering it inside in an area that drops below freezing occasionally and low light levels? I've already brought it indoors, but it doesn't look too happy right now.

Any suggestions?

Keeping the roots as dry as possible would help. I was able to overwinter a small one gallon one in a zone 8 cold greenhouse. Once it gets some size it should be much easier to keep alive and, to possibly bare root for the winter.

The same question but differnet zone: 5a-5b, what do you think? :-) I have one plant of E. glaucum and 4 plants of E. ventricosum outside together with two M. balbisiana and two M. basjoo. Basjoo overwintere ok last year in a mulched box from 4cm thick polystyren.

I would not suggest the same method for the Ensete's.
