Over wintering over?

Looks like winter is over. :08: This is my third year with musa bajoo, each spring I uncover a pile of mush and in a few weeks some sprouts.

Is there a good time to uncover my bananas? I mean, should average day time highs be in the 40's, 50's? Or should I be more concerned with overnight lows?

I tried something different last fall to overwinter my naners. If it was successful, I'll share pix, if not back to the drawing board. :rollerbananadone:

I have mine uncovered since around feb.20. We have had a couple of nights since then around 32, but i just placed a barrell over them. Once you start seeing highs in the 60's, I say let them get some sunshine.

It was an especially brutal winter snow-wise. Fourth snowiest all time, 178". :waving: It's not a typo, almost 15 feet of the white stuff. Hopefully the snow acted as an insulator. :ha:

Thanks. I'm in 6a. I'll take your advice and wait a couple more weeks. With luck I'll have a bunch of yellowish leaves waiting for sunlight. :nanadrink:

Hey where I am I would be taking down the coverings by now but the weather this year is crazy. Todays high is 6C thats 42F! Not only do we have the cool temps but we have so much rain. The hummingbirds came 3 weeks later than usual this year too.
Oh well, I am so wanting it to warm up here. Wish I lived more south when I see their temps!!!

I cut away the leaves and pstems that had fried the start of winter and which were the only protection about 3 weeks ago. Now the annual game of when will I spy the first shoot and how many will I have this year (last year there were 19 in the mat).

More snow today....:waving: This weekend should be in the high 50's with lows in the upper 30's. Spring has to come soon, right?:nanerwizard::pinkskirtnaner:

Maybe for sure in the next 2 months, but seeing how bad this winter has been, snow might fall well into May.

Anyways, I just dug up my Greenhouse musa basjoo corm which looks unharmed, potted it up in a 5 gallon pot which it barely fit into to get ready to plant it perhaps 1-2ft deep once it starts sending up leaves to ensure the protection of the corm.
