My Bananas at the end of the season!
|
Re: My Bananas at the end of the season!
Thanks for the pictures. I especially enjoyed the fowl. I'd love to have some guineas and hens but we are not zoned for it. I might turn to a life of crime and get some hens anyway. I'll just call them pets.

Re: My Bananas at the end of the season!
They look great! Thanks for sharing. They are probably pretty close to fruiting! Im probably going to dig up my bananas sometime next week so Im not waiting until the last minute. Its going to be really sad to see them go inside for the year, but I guess I'll just have to take lots of pics to remember them by until they grow back!

The hens are so cute! : )
My banana experience is only 18 months old, but I found bananas and hens are going well together this summer! ; )) (sorry, banana gallery is still unavailable, hope the link is visible from this location) |

Re: My Bananas at the end of the season!
I really liked your pictures. Makes me also want to have chickens again.

Re: My Bananas at the end of the season!
Where can I get a pumpkin banana plant? Do you leave the large ones in the ground? I'm tempted to get chickens since surprisingly there are no restrictions on chickens in my town.

The Chickens rock! At least you know the p-stems are ok for now.

Re: My Bananas at the end of the season!
Sorry about the freeze! Thank you so much for sharing your area is beautiful and I also want some chickens LOL! I have to wait for my neighbors to finish putting up a fence as they're already mad that my cats go in their yard I can't imagine if chickens did the same ha. My pig distracts their dog because he can smell her through the privacy fence he sits and stares at her. So, I don't think getting chickens would make them too happy hahahaha.. Thanks again for the photos!

Re: My Bananas at the end of the season!
If you are in zone 8, then a simple layer of large bubble wrap should be enough to get your basjoos and other hardy bananas to overwinter successfully according to some youtube videos. My basjoos have taken temperatures around 25F with no problem as the stem itself has some degree of cold hardiness, so wrapping them , and perhaps putting a plastic trash-bag over them should be sufficient given that zone 8 doesn't get nearly as cold as 6.
