Musa 'Bhutan'
 

Musa 'Bhutan' was actually sold as Musa paradisiaca var seminifera, but that's also the name of 4 other bananas, so it's a terrible name for it.
Here's a couple shots of Musa 'Bhutan'. It was really easy to sprout, and I grew up about a dozen plants. There seemed to be two ends of the spectrum when it came to appearance, and growth rates. They were all sprouted at the same time, but the more light green ones grew alot faster than the dark green/with dark red underneath leafs. I potted up as needed but the redder ones were still slow, with the inbetween colored ones, being the medium growers.

They are probally Hybrids of something, and not stable ones.

The bananas look 2 like separate varieties at this point. It will be interesting to see how they look (compared to each other) when they grow up and produce fruit.

Can you tell us where you got the semnifera seeds (turned out to be new bhutan)?

Sunshine Seeds in Belgium is selling them. I just got 20 last week. Their site is in French, but if you email them, they will reply in English if needed.

I don't remember where the original seeds were from, but Ortanque seeds also has them. When I ordered 100 last winter not a single sprout, maybe a freshness issue?. Now I'm really wishing I would have saved a plant or two.

Uhm, I only know a Sunshine Seeds in Germany,....do you mean that one?


And indeed, Ortanique has both Musa paradisica seminifera sp. and Musa paradisica seminifera sp. 'New Bhutan'. Wonder what the difference is...
