Musa basjoo "Sakhalin" in Brazil
Hi!
In the moment I'm again in Brazil in my new second residence. I took one pup of Musa basjoo "Sakhalin" under some difficulties with the customs to Brazil. But it did work and I planted it out in February in my new yard in Lucianópolis in Brazil. My housekeeper Antonio kept it, it grew quickly and became one firm plant with a firm pseudotrunk, 2 feet tall. He transplanted it to the dead limon tree and papayas. Now it does well! :woohoonaner: And now it's beginning to sucker. I will propagate it at first. Then I will grow it to produce seeds for the business and to try to cross with other banana species and fruit bananas to get fruit bananas which should be as hardy as Musa basjoo. I see, that Musa basjoo might do well also in USDA zone 11. It will flower and fruit regulary, and I do not need to protect it during the winter. It will grow through the year! Best wishes from Brazil Joachim |

Sounds like a great project. Keep us updated with your progress. We are always on the lookout for more cold hardy bananas.
