I have a what I was told is Zabrina and the top side is similar to yours but the bottom side is solid red. Other than that I have no clue.

My plant is still small. The red spots are not fading

Re: Red Kru

Maybe this plant is a Red Kru because it is not a Zabrina.

Hi Susan

Did you get this as TC plant.

Re: Red Kru

Yes both plants are TC's but from different places purchased different years. I got the Red Kru from Aloha Tropics in 2014 and the Zabrina I got from Florida Hills in 2013. I was wondering if anyone is growing the red Kru and remembers red spots on their young plant when it was about 3' tall.

My "Red Kru" from Aloha Tropicals looked identical to the African Rhino horn I got from them and definitely was not a Kru.

If you look at my photo gallery, on the first page there are two photos of red kru which I got from achims bananas in Europe, it is the proper one. Red kru Have red splashes on the leaves when young, the splashes are more spread out with light maroon, rather than the dark maroon clustered together on a Cavendish.Your Kru has no red on the p-stem if its a TC plant, could possibly take longer longer.

The jury is still out. 1 died, 1 struggled and is now happier after being replanted on another lot. It looks very much like another ARH I just got from another source. If so, that would make 3 of 11 from AT correct.

The color and shape of where the petioles meet the p-stem don't look like the Kru I have which are the real deal.

What does it look like to you? I have been looking at a lot of pictures of young plants and haven't found any that still have their red spots at 3'.

Re: Red Kru

I just took a look at your Kru picture very nice. How tall is your plant when did the red start to fade?

robguz24 06-08-2015 02:29 AM

Re: Red Kru

My tallest is only about 5'. I don't know when the red in the leaves disappeared, but the 5' one doesn't have it. I don't really have any idea what yours could be. It doesn't really look like any that I have and I'm up to 53 types.

Re: Red Kru

See the wings on the petioles on the Kru and how the left side where the leaf attaches is quite different than the right. The color pattern is also unique. My 5 footer had no red spots on the leaves.

Hi Rob

My Red Kru turned out to be a basjoo when I ordered from AT in 2008.I was not happy and told Andy Z,if he wants anymore future business from me, he better not send out the wrong variety again, I have ordered again from him as he is the only one that will ship worldwide, no problems since then.
