Red Bananas! ID assistance please
New to bananas and have a few different varieties that I have picked up from neighbors and friends but I don't know what varieties they are.
This plant is probably 15 feet tall or so. Produces these red skinned bananas that I would describe as a bit creamy and delicious. Work well in smoothies! http://www.lifetransplanet.com/wp-co...ed-Bananas.jpg Also as a side question. Should I cut off the flower at the end once the bunch has established? I've heard that it will promote growth of the bananas. |
Re: Red Bananas! ID assistance please
Not sure what it is... Check the wiki. Some say cut it, some don't... I'm not sure either.
Nice plant though. Congrats! |
Re: Red Bananas! ID assistance please
Thanks for directing me to the wiki. This is what I found:
"However, eventually, you’ll notice that no more fruit are developing and that you are only getting flowers that fall off. These are the male flowers and the bud should now be cut off just below the last fruit so that the plant will put its energy into developing the fruit rather than wasting it on flowers." |
Re: Red Bananas! ID assistance please
No problem. There's a ton of info in there.

I have about 4 or 5 different varieties but I don't know what type they are. I am sure I'll be posting here more often as I get more time. PR is wonderful!! I've not even heard of the PR Tall Morado!? |
