Red banana plant ID

This red, short, thick banana plant was given to me last fall. It spent the winter in a greenhouse and I put it in the ground in May. The person who gave it to me said he hadn't seen it have pups. I'm wondering what it is and how to propagate it. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]

Is that a variety that would bear edible bananas in a tropical climate? And how would I propagate it?

Hi! No it's just ornamental variety. It can be propagated by pups...

I just looked it up on the Missouri Botanical Garden website. The article said it is unlikely to produce suckers. I doubt that I will be seeing it produce seeds, so I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to get one of those unlikely suckers, like damage a root or something?
