Pisang Raja
Looks like pisang raja? Really big long flower...
It's a tissue culture from Larry, should be the right plant. ![]() |

Re: Pisang Raja
how tall at the crown? The mat I have access to that was bought as pisang raja years ago by a friend is very tall plants like 14 feet at the crown fruiting height.

Re: Pisang Raja
It's around 10ft tall at the flower. Not sure why but most of my bananas flower shorter than some of the stated heights. May just be environmental factors here. Not sure why but almost none of them get much over 10ft here.

Re: Pisang Raja
yes, i would imagine cali vs. florida would be different. All I recall is the easily distinguishable orange flesh inside the fruits. they were good tasting though.

Re: Pisang Raja
did you ever taste these? if so how were they?

Re: Pisang Raja
Not yet, they are maybe 60 or 70% of the way done. May take a while to finish now that winter is here. I'll post up when they finish up. You can sample them when they finish up. Its got a nice size rack.
I did try a maoli and they are pretty good. |

Re: Pisang Raja
Many tissue culture plants fruit at a lower height their first year. After the mat gets established then it's true height should be reached or close depending on conditions.
