Mystery TC BLUE fruit

What the heck is this? Its similar to blue java but smaller plant and fruit stick out instead of curing up.

Without knowing the size of the fingers, you basically described my dwf namwah. It had a bunch this summer with a dark/heavy blue coloring like your picture. The fingers were about 4" long X 1 1/4" diameter. The rain washed some of the blue off before I could get a picture of the bunch. They had a nice sweet flavor with a hint of apple.

...My Blue Javas produced 2 bunches the fingers were about 6" long or a little more. I lost one bunch to the hurricane winds in August.

This why many of the TC plantlets sold are actually Namwah. The plants were mixed up when a sample was sent to Aggristarts years ago. .... So the question is: Where did you get your plant from? ... As most growers that buy Blue Java tc's get Dwf Namwah.

Re: Mystery TC BLUE fruit

It was a tc from one of the online vendors and is mislabeled. I have no idea what it is. Ive got 2 other dwarf namwahs and a few tc fake ice creams, and real blue javas. This one is super blue. The blue has faded a bit since they are close to ripe. The bananas are on the small side and plant is really small. Its around 6ft at flower. And makes a small rack.

Its flowering again on another stem. I'll snap another pic.

I may call it dwarf blue java and distribute them. Its definitely not the standard tall namwah fake ice cream.

Looks like blue java to me. Does it have "knuckles" where the bananas attach to the rachis/pad area visible from below?

Is this a first year plant? My plants are always shorter the initial year planted with subsequent generations significantly taller.

the dwarf namwa will get a silver/blue wax coat from time to time, but the shape/way they hang are very different and easy to differentiate when you see both in person.
looks blue java just a small bunch, not a namwa variety though.

Re: Mystery TC BLUE fruit

I tried the fruit and its really fluffy and a little dry. Im not that impressed with the fruit. They have a nice size and color but the flesh is a little on the dry size and not very flavorful.

Heres a pic

Heres a pic of a different plant that is supposed to be the "real" blue java. These are definitwly different types of bananas. These ones curl upward. The mystery ones point outward.

I'm not even sure which place it came from and it wasn't supposed to be a blue java. Ill have to check the tag but its not what it was advertised as.

Re: Mystery TC BLUE fruit

i dug up this plant and trashed it. the fruit were small and not good tasting. the fruit was kind of dry and fluffy. 2 different P stems made this small low quality fruit.
