Which kind is this?...
Does anyone know which variety this is?...
![]() : ) |
Re: Which kind is this?...
Bay laurel for sure:ha: The banana is kind of small to guess but the thinner leaves might be an orinoco. Hopefully someone with more experience will see it and help.

Re: Which kind is this?...
I know about the Bay Laurel, you smart-ass!!!
Yes, someone with some knowledge and expertise would be very much appreciated. So far, only clowns have responded! ![]() |
Re: Which kind is this?...
No more guesses, eh?
: ( Does this help in identifying it? This new huge leaf just opened up yesterday for me... ![]() : ) |
Re: Which kind is this?...
Very difficult to tell at this young stage and growing in indirect light. By mid-summer it might have enough traits showing to identify it, and when it blooms and fruits it will probably be an easy task.

Re: Which kind is this?...
Thanks, Richard:
I don't know - this thing is growing very rapidly, and even though it may look like it's not getting much light, it really is - it was just cloudy the day I took the shot. I think it will be filled out long before Summer, at the rate it's growing. I only received it in the mail a little over a month ago! It came from Texas - from "ShearMe" actually. When the sun is shining, this thing is saturated in rays from an East and South window, and it is just thriving. All my other banana plants are kind of dwindling along, but this one seems to love it here! I intend on putting it outside when it's warm enough in Spring. Also, if it gets real dark, like it typically does over November and December, I can place this beauty under my bright metal halide light system, to get it through the dreary months of Fall and Winter. I will post more peeks as it develops... : ) |

Where did you find this one ? It is for sure an edible kind, good luck in the 2010 growin season :) !

Re: Which kind is this?...
I got it from 'ShearMe' (Zac) in Texas, Matt. Here's how it looks this winter...
![]() By the way Matt, My Basjoo from you is also doing well this winter... ![]() Thank you so much for it! : ) |
Re: Which kind is this?...
Was there any info you got with it? Such as type of fruit, general height, the original source? I have an idea but don't want to get your hopes up for an ID too soon.

Re: Which kind is this?...
No unfortunately, there was no information nor label that came with the plant. Zac bought it from a nursery in Texas, and it was unidentified. Looking forward to finding out what it is...

Re: Which kind is this?...
Here it is now in my garden, but it took a very long time to adjust to outdoors after being inside for so long. It's just recently started to send out new leaves...
![]() Looking forward to watching it grow more. That's an African Daisy Hybrid in front of the banana that will bloom soon. Gotta invite Zac into this thread so he can see it too... : ) |
Re: Which kind is this?...
Very cool, but be careful, once that thing starts putting out leaves, it wont stop - Stand Back!
:woohoonaner: Now playing: Billy Joel - Zanzibar |

Thanks, Migael. :waving:
The leaves have a red stripe up the center but it looks different than my two Basjoo plants. I guess we'll see... : ) |
