ID Musa from Home Depot?

My wife picked this up from Home Depot here in South Florida the other day. Our first banana :)
All it said on the label is Musa banana and of course the garden department employees don't know anything about it. Any clue what it is?
We replanted in a 7 gallon pot and it seems to be doing ok. Do you guys see any issues with it? Any suggestions are appreciated!

It doesn't look like the usual Dwarf Cavendish but the cloudy weather could be messing with the colors.
One piece of advice, in southern Florida, get it in the ground so it is ready to grow when summer comes.

Check out the plant tag from the grower .....and the drill down to what they sell locally.
Your grower is within a few miles.

Home Depot sells the top 4....Not a bad thing because they work in your zone and folks love them!

Gran Nain
Dwarf Cavendish
Cavendish
Zebrina...or posers.

My guess gran nain.

Wally world has some comparable stuff.....btw..

Not DC...

It didn't have a plant tag unfortunately. Just a vague label on the pot.

We were totally going to keep it in a pot like our mango plants because we plan to buy another house in the next few years but since learning all about how banana plants work maybe we will just put this in the ground and take a pup with us when we move.

Exactly, You should grow in the ground because it will grow very fast and you can take a small sucker when you move.

How much space does it need around the plant and how much sun exposure? The only spot I really have in my yard is right where the pot sits. Between 2 bushes and partial sun this time of year. During summer it would get full sun.

If your yard is just a temporary place to let it live before you plant it in the soil and have full sun, let it have as much light as possible and the distance between the trees is not to touch each other so they don't light competition together.

Re: ID Musa from Home Depot?

We got a banana from Lowes - 5 years ago - it has bunches which come out at maybe 8 feet, maybe even 9 (don't have any now. Biggest thing about them is that they are VERY good, not very long, (but not very short either - sort of medium) and real fatsos, but have terribly thin skins - maybe why we have never seen them in a market - too easy to damage. Our Mexican friend took a pup to Mexico and apparently it is going gangbusters there and they love it, not having seen it anywhere.
Anyway, any suggestions?
