I think Gran Nain and Cavendish are very similar in both appearance and genetic makeup?
I think that photo could show a gran naine, although the one I had didn't have as much red/colour on the petioles. The stems though, had deep red colouring. I acquired my plant in Tenerife, Canary Islands. The hombre who sold it to me said it was gran naine. They should know their bananas in Tenerife, with bananas covering half of the island! Erlend |

Gran Naine is basically a larger, beefier version of Dwarf Cavendish. It is a Dwarf Cavendish mutant and is a very similar plant, just larger and with more/larger fruit. This is the Cavendish variety most often used for commercial growing, these are the Dole and Chiquita bananas we know here in the US.

Okay Carolina. I do now think it is. It seems "beefier" at the base than both of my DC's. They've come a long way since last fall havent they!!!
