Growing at a local Body Shop
Did I get a pic that should help ID this plant? They're short... about 4 feet or so.

Re: Growing at a local Body Shop
I'm going to guess that it's a very starved/neglected Orinoco for 2 reasons: 1. they're very prevalent in FL and 2. they seem to fruit regardless of care but results (how many, how plump, how long, etc) are obvious. That said I have a little mystery musa that supposedly is from the homeland of someone whose first language is not English (Spanish I thought) which only gets about waist high before blooming. Cool if yours is that because then I might know what mine is.

Re: Growing at a local Body Shop
No, definitely not an Orinoco. This body shop has them planted all around in pots. They take care of them. I believe they have 3 different types. One, I'm told the owner said he bought as a Rajapuri. But the others, he's unsure of. I thought it may have been a Dwarf Cav or Manzano or something like that.

Very hard to tell from the pictures. Looks a lot like Orinoco to me. It's not Manzano or cavendish for sure.

I purchased mine by the side of the road. I asked if the banana tasted good; I asked if you cook them. The seller apparently didn't understand my questions; he just kept pointing at his waist and saying "bananas here". Perhaps he was saying it produced 3' fingers? Nah. Why he made that point I don't know but he was adamant about it and apparently considered it a special trait. BTW, I keep kicking myself for not buying some hot peppers native to his country; they would have given me greater insight as to variety of musa I suspect. |

It's a rather sad 'Dwarf Namwah'. The pinkish bud, very waxy fruits, and red coloration on the young fruit pedicels are telling.
